Scenix Porch Project
As an empty nester, Randy turned to Dakota Land Design for some fresh inspiration when planning the construction of his new home. Randy chose Dakota Land Design, in part, for their passion in personalizing the building experience and for the creative insight and collaboration offered during the design process.
After locating their dream lot on the far edge of town, Randy and his wife imagined an open floor plan design with some artistic flair that would be a welcoming place for entertaining friends and family. However, with the main level of the home on the second story, a concern was the accessibility of an outdoor patio area. During the planning discussion the idea of an upper-level enclosed porch area was discussed.
Their only request was that the space be large enough to accommodate a houseful of company and that it would be a comfortable setting, free from bugs, wind and other unpleasant outdoor elements.
The couple worked with Dakota Land Design to design an expansive 12 x 16 three-season porch positioned adjacent to the kitchen, overlooking an expansive view of the open South Dakota prairie. The team put their heads together to come up with a porch solution. Through research, the team found an innovative new option for an enclosed porch project – Scenix. The windows featured a built-in retractable screen and came in extra-large custom sizes and in multiple color options.
Randy was delighted to have discovered a perfect porch solution for his home. As a next step, they collaborated with Dakota Land Design to design the right porch structure for the largest Scenix windows available. To maximize their amazing view of the vast South Dakota prairie, the couple ordered five windows and one storm door to complete the porch.
The Dakota Land Design team suggested a unique floor plan where the three season porch would include a separate, open deck area that would accommodate the grill. As part of the modern, airy home design, the porch was finished in pine and the porch windows were ordered in a white finish. A geometric pattern was incorporated into both the ceiling panels and the flooring, giving the illusion of a larger room.
Thanks to the knowledge and creativity of the Dakota Land Design team, Randy ended up with a uniquely designed enclosed porch that gave his family a unique space for entertaining guests and for enjoying the view, in comfort.
“The Scenix product is two giant leaps ahead of traditional screen porch windows,” commented Kyle Rausch of Dakota Land Design LLC. “In this part of the country, there is a lot of concern around mosquito borne diseases like West Nile and there’s a good part of the year where it’d be nice to be outside without fighting off the bugs. A high-quality, retractable screen porch window like Scenix is not only practical but it’s also a beautiful addition to any new home. We’re certainly going to offer this product as a wonderful way to add more space and get the most out of a new porch.”
